CareerBuilder.com Partners with AfterCollege to Bring More Job Resources to College Graduates

CareerBuilder.com’s Job Listings to Appear on AfterCollege’s Exclusive Network of University Academic Department and Student Group Job Boards

CHICAGO, July 21, 2003 - CareerBuilder.com, the smarter recruitment resource for finding better candidates and jobs, and AfterCollege, the nation’s leading provider of targeted college recruitment and branding services, today announced a strategic partnership that will create one of the largest targeted college recruiting networks in North America. CareerBuilder.com will deliver over 400,000 job postings from 25,000 of the nation’s top employers to nearly one million discipline and diversity specific college students in the AfterCollege Network. Job listings will be available for undergraduate and graduate students through job boards at academic departments and student groups.

The partnership comes at the right time. A 2003 CareerBuilder.com survey found 65 percent of hiring managers plan to hire college graduates this year. However, of that 65 percent, 48 percent plan to hire less than ten.

"Work experience is key in this highly competitive job market," said Matt Ferguson, chief operating officer for CareerBuilder.com. "This partnership significantly expands job resources for college graduates so they can gain the experience needed to build a solid career path. The partnership also provides employers wishing to reach specific subsets of entry-level talent with the benefit of targeted exposure on AfterCollege’s extensive network of academic departments and groups."

AfterCollege maintains exclusive partnerships with academic departments and student group organizations at top universities throughout the United States. These include top public and private colleges and universities, HBCUs, and community colleges.

"This is a truly synergistic partnership that combines job information from CareerBuilder.com's far-reaching network of newspaper partners and web sites with AfterCollege's unparalleled access to hard-to-reach college students," said Roberto Angulo, CEO of AfterCollege. "Given the current job market, it's important that we give our students access to a larger pool of jobs while allowing CareerBuilder.com clients to target their listings by discipline or diversity group – greatly increasing their percentage of attracting qualified candidates."

CareerBuilder.com combines the power of online and print with the 130 newspapers of its partners Gannett Co., Tribune Company and Knight Ridder. The company also partners with national, industry, diversity and local Web sites across the country.

CareerBuilder.com offers smart online tools to connect candidates with employers. The company offers a confidential Personal Search Agent that will hunt for job opportunities in expressed areas of interest and automatically email them to job seekers. CareerBuilder.com also gives job seekers the choice to search by industry, location and job type, and provides online career assessments, coaching for interviews and tips for salary negotiations. For companies looking for top performers, CareerBuilder.com offers over seven million resumes, easy job postings, online career fairs, a bilingual version of its site and other services.

The Survey
The new CareerBuilder survey, "Life at Work 2003," was conducted from February 20 to March 3, 2003 of more than 2,600 survey respondents including 290 hiring managers. To collect data for the survey, CareerBuilder commissioned SurveySite to use an e-mail methodology whereby individuals who are members of SurveySite Web Panel were randomly selected and approached by e-mail invitation to participate in the online survey. The results of this survey are accurate within +/- 1.9 percent.
