CHICAGO – September 20, 2011 –Even with 14 million Americans unemployed (42 percent for 27 weeks or longer), nearly two-in-five hiring managers say they have open positions for which they cannot find qualified candidates, according to a recent national survey by CareerBuilder. With the goal of educating job seekers on where to find opportunities and putting Americans back to work, CareerBuilder announces a major commitment to the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) Annual Meeting in New York. Established in 2005 by President Bill Clinton, the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) convenes global leaders to devise and implement innovative solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges.
CareerBuilder’s commitment provides CareerOneStop centers, sponsored by the U. S. Department of Labor, with complimentary access and usage of CareerBuilder’s online Supply & Demand Portal. The Supply & Demand Portal was designed to help employers zero in on the best markets to recruit hard-to-find talent as well as enable CareerBuilder to help job seekers discover occupations that are in high demand and hone skill sets for areas with great growth opportunities. Using information from the portal, CareerOneStop Center staff will be armed with tangible information as they assist job seekers in the retraining and “re-skilling” for opportunities that will not only be available today, but in the years to come.
The commitment runs for 12 months starting on October 1, 2011 and offers a single annual license for CareerBuilder’s Supply & Demand Portal, available at no charge (a $5,000 value), to the 1,819 Comprehensive CareerOneStop centers and 1,095 Affiliate CareerOneStop centers across the U.S.
“Over the last few years, the Clinton Global Initiative has been instrumental in bringing positive change to many parts of the world and we are honored to work with them in helping to impact many lives right here in the United States,” said Matt Ferguson, CEO of CareerBuilder. “More than half of workers who were laid off in the last year and found new jobs reported they found them in entirely different fields, a trend that is growing post-recession. While the U.S. job market remains competitive, the Supply & Demand Portal quickly identifies areas that have a deficit in talent and opportunities for new career paths.”
Requests for access to the portal can be submitted to www.workersindemand.com. CareerBuilder will also perform periodic training for the CareerOneStop centers focusing on how to best use the portal to pull and decipher their local information. Other requests will be approved at CareerBuilder discretion.
About the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI)
Established in 2005 by President Bill Clinton, the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) convenes global leaders to devise and implement innovative solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges. Since 2005, CGI Annual Meetings have brought together nearly 150 current and former heads of state, 18 Nobel Prize laureates, hundreds of leading CEOs, heads of foundations, major philanthropists, directors of the most effective nongovernmental organizations, and prominent members of the media. These CGI members have made nearly 2,000 commitments, which have already improved the lives of 300 million people in more than 180 countries. When fully funded and implemented, these commitments will be valued in excess of $63 billion. The 2011 Annual Meeting will take place Sept. 20-22 in New York City.
This year, CGI also convened CGI America, a meeting focused on developing ideas for driving economic growth in the United States. The CGI community also includes CGI U, which hosts an annual meeting for undergraduate and graduate students, and CGI Lead, which engages a select group of young CGI members for leadership development and collective commitment-making.
