The Department of Labor reports that 4.8 percent of U.S. veterans are unemployed, compared to the national average of 5.6 percent of all workers as of May, 2004. To the contrary, the unemployment rate for Vietnam-era veterans, ages 45 to 64 was 4.7 percent.
