Overview

Specializing in the treatment of opioid dependency, Discovery House Comprehensive Treatment Center of Maine provides individuals, aged 18 and older, with the opportunity to take part in our outpatient treatment programs. Our comprehensive treatment approach utilizes a combination of therapeutic interventions and medication-assisted treatment in order to safely assist patients in progressing towards recovery. The following medications are available for patients to incorporate into their customized plans of treatment:

Methadone:Methadone is an opioid agonist that provides relief from the physical symptoms of withdrawal, while eliminating cravings for continued opioid use. The use of methadone will not cause patients to experience disruptions in their cognitive functioning, which allows patients to play an active role in daily activities.

Subutex: Comprised of buprenorphine as its active ingredient, Subutex is a partial opioid agonist-antagonist that works by blocking the effects that opioid have within an individual’s brain. When these effects are blocked, individuals will be able to experience relief from withdrawal symptoms and diminished cravings for continued opioid use.

Suboxone:Suboxone is comprised of a combination of naloxone and buprenorphine in order to provide relief from the physical discomforts of withdrawal while eliminating any cravings that may take place. Unlike other medications available in treatment, individuals who attempt to abuse opioids or Suboxone during the course of treatment will experience extremely uncomfortable side effects.
